What to do if you are involved in an auto accident
• Check for injuries. If you or anyone involved might be injured, call 911 immediately.
• Turn on your hazard lights. This alerts other drivers to be cautious of the accident area.
• Call the police or local law enforcement. Never leave the scene of an accident until everything is taken care of.
• Obtain information.
• Names, addresses, telephone numbers, and driver’s license numbers from all drivers.
• Names, addresses, and telephone numbers of any passengers and witnesses.
• License plate numbers and vehicle identification numbers (VIN).
• Take photos. If your cell phone has a camera or if you have a camera on hand, take photos of any damages, injuries, and the accident scene.
• Exchange insurance information. If the name on the auto registration and/or insurance policy is different from the name of the driver, establish the relationship and note it.
• Take notes. As soon as possible, write down the details of the accident, including any damages, injuries, road and weather conditions.
• Notify your agent. Contact your insurance company and report any damages. A claim representative will provide you with a claim number.
You have the right to select the facility that will repair your vehicle.
